INDIA – AN INTRODUCTION

Indian subcontinent is a land of scenic beauty with its snow-capped mountains and hill stations in the Northern Himalayan Regions; a strong bastion of indigenous culture, famous and historical temples, tropical forests, Paradise of kashmir, backwaters in Kerala, beautiful hill stations in Tamil Nadu, beaches and cosmopolitan cities of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and wonderful lush islands in the Southern Regions of India; miles and miles of the Thar Desert, colorful cities of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner, Goa the most sought after tourist destinations and Mumbai with wonderful beaches and Bollywood all enhances the beauty of Western India; India’s mostly rural regions of Bihar, its largest city Kolkata, the temple cities of Puri and Bhubaneswar glorified the Eastern India. It is an extremely diverse country, with vast differences in geography, climate, culture, language and ethnicity across its expanse, and prides itself on being the largest democracy on Earth interlocked with Pakistan to the West, China and Nepal to the North, Bhutan to the North-East, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the East. Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Indonesia lie to the South-East in the Indian Ocean. In addition, this subcontinent also fed the perennial rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra and Sindhu (Indus) on whose plains India’s civilization flourished.
